Summer Greetings And Updates

Summer Greetings And Updates

Dear Friends of Sergelt Ood,

Summer is coming to an end and the nights are getting chilly. Soon the long harsh winter will start, no problem when you have a warm house, good clothes, when you can sleep in a warm bed and have a warm meal whenever you want (things we can so easily take for granted), but what a very hard and dangerous season for those living on the streets. Thinking of them we are not looking forward to this season…

In August and September we had organised some special activities for our homeless contacts such as a showerhouse day, a river outing and an examination & treatment day at a hospital for more than 20 of our contacts. Meanwhile the construction work is continuing on our land, slower than planned and every now and then with added expenses, but we trust all will still finish on time and we can move to our own location before winter!
A short impression of the construction work
SHOWERHOUSE DAY & RIVER OUTING

At both showerhouse day and the river outing people received clean sets of clothes, a new haircut, warm meals, there was time for games, fellowship, music and singing, and sharing testimonies. These were enjoyable moments for all and our contacts are still talking about it.

As Corona restrictions are loosening we want to continue our weekly normal outreaches with our drop-in bus again and also our fellowship peer-support meetings. Colleague Amaraa recently passed for his bus driving exam and we hope he will receive his licence quickly so he can also be our busdriver.
HOSPITAL CHECK-UP & TREATMENT DAY

A year ago Enkhjargal, our volunteer nurse, changed her job and is since then working at a Chr. hospice, a fairly new Korean-Mongolian hospital. She introduced our work and some doctors joined our outreaches. The hospital decided they want to offer once a month, free of charge check-up with treatment for up to 10 of our homeless contacts a time who are in most urgent need, even up to operations and medication. This is such a blessing! Until now it has overall been very challenging if not impossible to try to cooperate with local hospitals, as in general they are not eager (read: unwilling) to treat the homeless. What we saw last week was so heartwarming: such loving care and patience to give proper attention and care to each individual. We are very grateful and hope for an ongoing pleasant and fruitful cooperation between the hospital and us.
Saturday Oct. 3 we will be on the Dutch TV again at EO Metterdaad giving an update of our activities of this year, the purchase of our land and the renovation and building project. If you are living in the Netherlands don’t forget to watch and pass on the news 🙂
Thank you so much for your partnership and support. We cannot do this without you! For more information about us please visit our website or contact us.

Kind regards,
Corrie van der Esch, on behalf of all at Sergelt Ood NGO
